Former president Bill Clinton said his wife is "doing fine" after getting a "good night's sleep" during an interview Monday, a day after she left a 9/11 memorial ceremony because she was feeling
unwell. Video appeared to show Hillary Clinton stumble as she left the eventbefore aides helped her into a van.
"She just got dehydrated yesterday," Clinton told interviewer Charlie Rose.
"Is that what happened?" Rose asked. "Because when you look at that collapse, that video that was taken, you wonder if it’s not more serious than dehydration."
"Well, if it is then it's a mystery to me and all of her doctors," Clinton replied.
After first saying that Hillary Clinton left the event because she felt "overheated," the campaign later disclosed that the Democratic nominee had been diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday. Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton's communications director, said the campaign "could have done better" in handling the situation, and campaign spokesmanBrian Fallon admitted, "we should have provided more information more quickly."
Fallon said there is "no other undisclosed condition" and promised more information about Clinton's health would be released in the coming days.
Clinton's bout with pneumonia will likely add fuel to the existing speculation by Trump and his supporters that she is facing some hidden illness. Such speculation previously lacked much credibility and centered largely on a single coughing fit Clinton suffered during a Sept. 5 speech in Cleveland.
Bill Clinton said Hillary has "worked like a demon" in her career and that "she had two-and-a-half hard days before the day she got dizzy." He said he agreed with her decision to cancel a campaign trip to the West Coast so that she could rest.
Rose asked if Clinton might stay off the campaign trail for weeks.
"No, not a shot." Clinton said. "I'll be lucky to hold her back another day."
