Sony released the latest version of its operating software for the PlayStation 4 on Tuesday, ahead of the arrival of fresh hardware this holiday.

The 4.00 software update introduces support for High Dynamic Range, which uses a wider spectrum of colors to create a brighter and more vibrant display.
The option is available in Settings, and will only work on televisions capable of running HDR content.
The update also introduces several new options ahead of the launch of the PlayStation 4 Pro, a high-powered version of the video game console capable of running 4K content.

Sony will launch the PlayStation 4 Pro in November, while a second PS4 that's lighter and slimmer than the standard model launches on Thursday.
